dirty pockets

dirty pockets

i am the
rock you find
at the bottom of shallow creeks,
slick with slime
and algae.

i can
be used just fine as a paperweight,
and i can skip
across the water
really well-
leaving ripples with each step

or i can make a nice coffee table
conversation piece,
or a good luck charm.

but the problem
with being a rock
at the bottom of shallow creeks,
slick with
slime and algae
is that people don't bother
to scrape off the algae and
let you dry out

because who would
ruin a pair of pants
for a rock
at the bottom of a shallow creek,
slick with
slime and algae?

i don't know either,
but that's
the kind of person
i want to take me home.

I'm really glad that you're writing again, whether or not it'll ever pay. =)After all, wasn't it the sheer joy of the thing that prompted us to write in the first place? I try to remind myself of that often.

    and your poetry is lovely.

  2. well, the sheer joy is usually just plain self-abuse. haha, i think we had this discussion earlier. yeah, i don't really write half-decent stuff unless i'm feeling some sort of conflict in my life. so it's probably a good sign i was not writing as much, perhaps.

and thanks. :) i had another piece before this as well but that one is one of the longer ones.. it's been a while since i did one of those.

i typically write too verbosely in my prose and poetry, it would seem
